YAZOO COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Newly sworn in investigators in Yazoo County are working two cases their first day on the job -- one a murder, the other, a death pending.

Some progress has been made in the discovery of a dead toddler.  Wednesday, deputies arrested the mother of the child, 21-year-old Courtney Ann Jones and 21-year-old Billy Williams, and charged them with with two counts of child abuse.  Jones is the mother of one-year-old Hunter Jones, whose body was found on a bed in a Yazoo County home last Thursday.

YAZOO COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - The Yazoo County Sheriff's Department has arrested two people following the death of a toddler.    

Authorities say the baby's mother, 26-year-old Courtney Ann Jones, and her boyfriend, Billy Joe Williams Jr., are charged with two counts each for felony child abuse. 

Jones and Williams were not charged in the death of 1-year-old Hunter Jones.

According to detectives, he allegedly broke into a local  business Tuesday night and stole items. 

He was dressed in a dark hoodie with khaki slacks.

YAZOO COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A long-standing domestic dispute in Yazoo County culminated Sunday with a brutal beating. Now, a Yazoo County sheriff's deputy, accused of the assault, has been suspended and the state is investigating.

James Shiers, Jr. and his wife Shannon have been estranged for more than a year. An argument Sunday led to the brutal beating of her brother.

Inmate escapes hospital

A Jackson man who is considered armed and dangerous is on the run.

Brandon Jernigan was in Yazoo City Police custody when he escaped from Kings Daughters Hospital in Yazoo City Wednesday night, according to Yazoo City Police Chief Eric Snow.

Jernigan, 26, of Jackson was arrested earlier Wednesday on drug charges and was reportedly being examined at Kings Daughters Hospital. Jernigan wasn't cuffed when he escaped.
