Officials: Leaking oil well no threat to residents | Environment
OIL CITY, MS (WLBT) - Efforts are underway to seal an abandoned oil well that began leaking near Oil City in Yazoo County last week.
A Denbury Resources spokesperson says on Aug. 9, a well was discovered with a flow of mud and salt water in the Anding Field. They say one employee became dizzy and was hospitalized but returned to work later in the week.
Right now there is no threat to residents or the environment, according to Denbury officials.
Regulatory agencies are on site monitoring the cleanup. The leaking oil well is almost secured, with the leaking materials contained. Air quality monitors are also in place to detect any other leaks before they become a threat.
