Hinds Community College group takes Yazoo City tour

YAZOO CITY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - A group from the Hinds Community College group "The Silver Eagles Experiencing Mississippi" took a tour of Yazoo City Wedneday.

The group made stops at Glenwood Cemetery, Tom's on Main, Ricks Memorial Library and the Triangle Cultural Center, according to the library's Facebook.

Suspects sought in Yazoo City home invasion

A Yazoo City woman was the victim of a home invasion Wednesday afternoon.

YAZOO CITY, MS (Mississippi News Now)- A Yazoo City woman was the victim of a home invasion Wednesday afternoon.

Yazoo City police say two armed men forced the elderly woman to the floor of her house on Jerry Clower Boulevard around 3:30.

The men reportedly demanded money and then left.

Police say the woman wasn't injured but was badly shaken.

One man has been detained for questioning, but no arrests have been made.

Jack Day -- a 70-year-old cyclist making a 7,000-mile bicycle tour -- made a stop in Yazoo City Tuesday.

According to Visit Yazoo, Day's overnight stay in Yazoo City was sponsored by the Best Western Gateway Inn.

Day didn't take up biking until after retirement.

MDOC to close Yazoo County Community Work Center

YAZOO COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The Mississippi Department of Corrections has announced it's closing four of the state's 17 community work centers, including the one in Yazoo County.

The decision was made due to a budget shortfall and a decrease in non-violent inmates eligible to be housed at community works centers, according to MDOC Commissioner Epps.

Inmates at the Yazoo County Community Work Center will be transferred to other MDOC facilities, and the center's staff will be offered positions at other MDOC facilities.

Sex offender accused of soliciting sex from minor

WARREN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now)- Warren County authorities say a Yazoo County sexual offender has been arrested for allegedly soliciting a sex act from a child.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace says Ray Hilderbrand, 37, of Bentonia was arrested at his residence Friday after a month-long investigation.

Hilderbrand is accused of approaching a child under the age of 16 and requesting that the child perform a sex act. Pace said Hilderbrand was acquainted with the child, but didn't elaborate.
