Sunflower River drowning victim identified | News
YAZOO COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Sgt. Jack Willingham of the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department confirmed Tuesday the man who drowned in the Sunflower River over the weekend was 30-year-old Jose Vasques of Houston, Texas.
Divers found Vasques' body in the river about two miles south of Holly Bluff shortly after 5 p.m. Monday.
This section of the river forms the border between Yazoo and Sharkey counties.
Willingham said Vasques was out on a pontoon boat with friends Sunday. Several of them jumped into the water and Vasques drowned.
Rescue and dive teams from the Madison County Fire Department and the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department were among those searching for the victim.
