70-year-old cyclist on 7,000-mile bike tour makes stop in Yazoo City

Jack Day -- a 70-year-old cyclist making a 7,000-mile bicycle tour -- made a stop in Yazoo City Tuesday.

According to Visit Yazoo, Day's overnight stay in Yazoo City was sponsored by the Best Western Gateway Inn.

Day didn't take up biking until after retirement.

According to the Yazoo CVB, NFL Hall of Famer Willie Brown and his brother David own the restaurant.

2nd annual CVB Honors to honor Yazoo County's best in tourism

The second annual Yazoo County CVB Honors Awards is coming up Oct. 18.

The free event includes the presentation of the annual Emory Hodgson Award for Community Service and honors the best of Yazoo County dining, lodging, attractions, customer service and community service.

The theme of this year’s event is “I AM TOURISM”.

A reception with live entertainment starts at 5:30 p.m. and the awards program begins at 6:30 p.m. all at the Triangle Cultural Center on North Main Street in Yazoo City.

MC School of Education Hires Two Professors

Growing up in the restaurant business in Yazoo City taught Michael Coco about the value of hard work and helped pay for his education at Mississippi College.

Run by his parents, Coco’s restaurant off U.S. 49 specialized in Italian food and steaks before closing in the 1970s.

Rather than staying in the family business, Coco earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at MC in 1974 and that began his 38-year career as a teacher and school administrator.
